This is a vintage black porcelain Chinese rice bowl decorated in the Famille Rose style. Famille Rose is a Western classification for Qing dynasty porcelain known for its opaque overglaze rose colors, which were introduced from Europe in the 18th century.
The style is known as fencai or yangcai ("foreign colors") in Chinese.
The dominant color in this style is pink, derived from colloidal gold enamel.
The technique was perfected during the Yongzheng and Qianlong eras of the Qing dynasty, when the finest pieces were made.
The bowl features a vibrant, multi-colored floral pattern on a black background. It measures approximately 4.5” in diameter and 2.5” tall. It is in good pre-owned condition with no chips and cracks, and the colors are still very vibrant. Perfect to use as a change or catch-all bowl!
