At least 20 children have been died in a boat accident in Kano

A boat accident in Kano State, Nigeria, has left 20 students dead and several others injured.

Sources in the area said the boat was carrying 47 people, mostly students from an Islamic school in Badau village on their way to Bagwai to attend a Mouloud.

Kano State Emergency Management Agency spokesman Saminu Abdullahi said the accident took place around 9.15pm and only 20 bodies were recovered.

The official added that 7 people were rescued alive from the crash, while the search for other students continued.

The quake shook the region and Kano State as a whole.
